The immense Brenne national park which spreads over 1,672 km2 of protected land is popularly coined ‘le pays des mille étangs’ – ‘the land of a thousand lakes’. This is, in fact, an underestimation as it actually contains over 1300 lakes! and is also often referred to as the lake district of France.
Although popular for fishing, bird watching, hiking and cycling, this enormous area is vacant of people with the occasional unspoilt village or hamlet.
